Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A strong start from right-hander Robinson Leyer and three scoreless innings from the bullpen allowed Winston-Salem to eek past Frederick 2-1 on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark.

Leyer (1-1), who is ranked the 22nd-best prospect in the White Sox system by MLB Pipeline, went six innings and allowed just two hits and one earned run. The right-hander also struck out four batters, while walking one.

Connor Walsh relieved Leyer and tossed two perfect frames out of the bullpen in his first home appearance in more than a month. Yelmison Peralta then picked up his second High-A save by throwing a scoreless ninth. Peralta, who has now made seven appearances with Winston-Salem, has yet to yield an earned run in 10 innings of work.

With the win, Winston-Salem (14-18, 42-60) has clinched its second series victory over Frederick (16-15, 52-49). Since the calendar flipped to June, the Dash are also now 5-0-3 in home series at BB&T Ballpark and 18-10 overall in that span. The Dash can claim their first series sweep of 2016 on Wednesday.

Winston-Salem broke a scoreless tie in the second against Keys starter Mitch Horacek (4-10). With runners on first and second and one out, Toby Thomas blooped an RBI single to left to put the Dash up 1-0.

The Dash added the deciding run in the third, thanks to some defensive miscues. Michael Suiter stroked a one-out single to left and took a wide turn around first. On the play, Frederick shortstop Erick Salcedo made an errant throw to first that sailed out of play and allowing Suiter to move to third. The next batter Gerson Montilla grounded a ball right back to Horacek, but the left-hander made a wide toss to first that allowed Suiter to score and made it 2-0.

Frederick plated its lone run in the fifth on a leadoff solo shot by Ademar Rifaela. In total, the Keys mustered just three hits against Dash pitching.

Suiter went 2-for-4 with a run scored. The former Kansas Jayhawk is 15-for-33 in his last 10 games.

The Dash round out their three-game series against Frederick on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. Winston-Salem sends right-hander Jordan Stephens (4-7, 3.81 ERA) to the hill against Frederick righty Franderlin Romero (4-3, 5.88 ERA). The Pregame Dash begins at 12:45 p.m., and fans can tune in on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
