Sharks Top Tobs Behind Eubanks' Gem

July 26, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release

Wilmington, NC-In the final regular season contest between the two teams, the Wilmington Sharks (28-17, 12-6) would defeat the Wilson Tobs (8-9, 22-22) 5-2 on Tuesday night with help from Evan Eubanks' (Oral Roberts) best start of the season.

Eubanks was good from the start, as he blanked the Tobs in all but two of his eight innings. He allowed a two out single in the third to score his only earned run, and another came across after an error in the seventh. Other than that, he looked dominant. He got nine Tobs out in a row, to keep them hitless through the middle innings.

Meanwhile, the Sharks offense took a two run lead in the first, and never lost it. Alec Bohm (Wichita State) and Mark Donadio (Fordham) both walked, and later scored. Cletis Avery (Presbyterian) scored in the fourth and sixth innings, on a ground out and a sacrifice fly respectively. Finally, Matt Meeder (Mercer) added an insurance run in the seventh when wild throw to first landed in the dugout.

The win went to Evan Eubanks (4-1). He threw eight innings, with five hits, two runs, one earned run, two walks and three strikeouts. Jeff Thompson (2-4) took the loss, pitching six and a third innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits, five walks and no strikeouts. Kyler Stout (2) picked up the save with one scoreless inning, two walks and a strikeout.

The Sharks will play two more at home this week, with tomorrow's Wing Wednesday matchup against the Fayetteville Swampdogs.
