Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle blasted two home runs and rolled the Palm Beach Cardinals, 7-1, at Hammond Stadium on Tuesday evening in the second of a three-game series.

The Miracle got off to a booming start in the bottom of the first inning. On the first pitch of the evening from Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty, T.J. White launched a 381-foot blast to deep left field. White's homer was his sixth of the season and staked the Miracle to a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Miracle added another run with the help of Flaherty's control issues. With one out, Trey Vavra doubled down the left field line. Then, Flaherty (2-8) threw two wild pitches that allowed Vavra to score, 2-0.

The Cardinals shaved a run off the Miracle lead in the top of the fifth without the benefit of a hit. Michael Pritchard coaxed a one out walk from Miracle starter Randy Rosario. Oscar Mercado then hit into a force play on a fly ball that Joe Maloney dropped in right field. Mercado replaced Pritchard at first base and moved to second when Chris Rivera reached on a walk. With Andrew Sohn at the plate, Mercado took off for third and stole the base. The pitch from Rosario (6-6) hit the dirt and Rivera advanced to second on the wild pitch. Sohn then grounded out to short and Mercado scored to slice the Miracle advantage in half, 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Miracle answered with a three-run inning to take control of the game. Maloney led off with a 374-foot solo blast to left field that was deposited on the SunHarvest Citrus lawn. The home run was Maloney's second of the season and the second of the day for the Miracle off Flaherty. A.J. Murray followed the Maloney bomb with a double off the wall in center field. Flaherty rallied to strikeout Alex Perez, but White delivered an RBI single up the middle to plate Murray. After advancing to second on Mercado's attempt from center to throw out Murray, White watched Tanner Witt ground out and Nick Gordon earn a walk. Trey Vavra then lofted a single into center field and White scored to push the Miracle lead to 5-1.

The Miracle added a run in the sixth when Perez drew a bases loaded walk and another scored in the eighth when Chris Paul touched home after a passed ball, 7-1.

Rosario pitched into the seventh inning for the Miracle. Over 6.2 innings, Rosario allowed just one run on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

White finished the night 3-for-4 and Maloney was 2-for-4.
