St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to complete a 6-3 comeback win over the Bradenton Marauders on Tuesday at Tradition Field.

The Mets entered the bottom of the eighth trailing 3-1 but recorded five hits in the inning and sent all nine batters to the plate. Patrick Biondi got the party started with a RBI double that cut the deficit to 3-2 and put runners on second and third.

The Marauders opted to intentionally walk Kevin Kaczmarski to load the bases with one out. The move failed, as David Thompson delivered a two-run single to put the Mets ahead 4-3.

Kaczmarski would later score on a wild pitch and Tomas Nido blooped a RBI single to complete the scoring.

Corey Taylor struck out two in the ninth to earn his 15th save.

Paul Paez logged three innings of relief to get the win.

Poor defense seemingly was going to doom the Mets in the seventh. Holding a 1-0 lead, the Mets appeared to get out of the seventh when Michael Suchy flew a ball into right field but John Mora dropped it. The inning unraveled from there. Elvis Escobar hit a game-tying single and advanced to second on the throw to plate. Tito Polo then singled up the middle to bring in Escobar and put the Marauders up 2-1.

Chase Simpson would produce another run for the Marauders with a run-scoring ground out in the eighth to make it 3-1 Bradenton. The top of the eighth ended with Simpson being caught in a rundown at first base. Paez and the Marauders dugout started jawing back and forth and the chirping led to the teams coming out of the dugouts. The situation quickly subsided, but the Mets were inspired and rode the momentum at the plate in the bottom of the inning.

Josh Prevost, returning from an elbow ailment, threw five scoreless innings in his first start for St. Lucie since May 31. He scattered five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four. He retired eight batters in a row to finish his outing. He threw 69 pitches.

The Mets snapped a six-game losing streak to Bradenton and remain 1.5 games behind first place Jupiter in the FSL South.

Next Up: The Mets (53-45, 18-13) and Marauders (52-47, 14-17) meet again at Tradition Field on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
