Sanford Mainers News Release
SANFORD - Per league release, the Sanford Mainers' Blaise Whitman (Rhode Island) has been named NECBL Pitcher of the Week after the league's seventh week of action.
Whitman dazzled out of the bullpen for Sanford in two appearances, totaling six innings of work with five strike outs and WHIP of 0.50. Whitman only allowed one walk and two hits. His performance was good enough to earn the win in a 3-0 victory against Winnipesaukee.
This season, Whitman has appeared in 15 games all out of the bullpen for the Moose posting a 4.50 ERA in 24 innings pitched, in addition to a record of 4-1. The Rhode Island Ram has 19 strike outs and opponents are hitting just .223 against him.
At the University of Rhode Island this spring, Whitman started five games this spring and appeared 13 times in a total of 30.2 innings of work. The rising senior averaged over eight strike outs per nine innings for the Rams.
Whitman is the second Mainer to receive recognition for pitching prowess - teammate Will Tribucher (Michigan) earned Pitcher of the Week honors in the opening week of the season after a start at Danbury.
