Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats announced today the signing of infielder Andy DeJesus and left-handed pitcher Braulio Torres-Perez. Both players finished their senior seasons in May, with DeJesus graduating from Indiana State and Torres-Perez from Bellevue University.

DeJesus most recently played for the Terre Haute Rex of the Prospect League, a wood-bat collegiate summer league. He hit .327 in 25 games for the Rex including five doubles and three home runs. The switch hitter tallied 15 RBIs and four stolen bases. He also played for the Rex in 2015 and was named to the Prospect League's All-Star Team.

DeJesus, originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was the starting second baseman and fill-in shortstop for two years at Indiana State. He hit .280 with a .338 OBP over his junior and senior years. His best year was in 2016 when he hit eight triples and 15 doubles to help the Sycamores to a 35-21 record.

Before going to Terre Haute, DeJesus played two years at Iowa Central Community College. He was First-Team All-Region in NJCAA DII Baseball his sophomore year after hitting a team-high .379. He recorded a .502 slugging percentage and stole 11 bases.

Torres-Perez is coming off a strong senior year in which he went 11-1 with a 2.72 ERA and helped guide the Bellevue (Nebraska) Bruins to the final four of the NAIA College World Series. He started 15 games and held opponents to a .219 batting average.

The left-hander from Washington was a first team all-North Star Athletic Conference selection and won the conference's gold glove award. He was named a NSAA Scholar Athlete each of his years at Bellevue. Torres-Perez threw a no-hitter on March 11th against St. Ambrose.

The Bruins are one on the top NAIA programs in the country and compiled a 100-27 record with Torres-Perez. They won their conference tournament the past two seasons and made the NAIA College World Series for the first time since 2008 this year. Torres-Perez joins former RailCats Randy Santiesteban and Manny Arciniega as the third rookie from a Nebraska NAIA school to play for Gary SouthShore in 2016.

2016 is the 15th season of RailCats Baseball in Northwest Indiana. For more information on Gary SouthShore RailCats tickets and Group Outing information call 219-882-2255 or visit www.railcatsbaseball.com.
