Mieses, Quakes Jolt 66ers in Series Opener

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Johan Mieses had a pair of three-run homers and a pair of doubles as his Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rumbled over the Inland Empire 66ers 12-1 at LoanMart Field on Monday. The Quakes improved to 16-6 against the Sixers on the season.

Inland Empire (33-69, 10-21) took a lead against Quakes righty Josh Sborz when Zach Houchins smashed a solo shot to left field to make it 1-0. The homer was Houchins' team-best 12th of the season but would prove to be the lone run Inland Empire would tally. Sborz allowed just three other hits in five frames while fanning six and improved to 8-4 on the year.

Rancho Cucamonga got to Sixers' starter Jared Ruxer (0-3) in the bottom of the second when a Mieses struck for the first time. With two men aboard he smoked a drive out to left to give the Quakes a 3-1 lead. Rancho Cucamonga (59-42, 17-14) got to Ruxer again in the fourth when with two outs four consecutive batters notched hits highlighted by Garrett Kennedy's two-run double and Erick Mejia's RBI single.

Mieses continued to hurt Inland Empire as the Santo Domingo, DR native led off the sixth with a double and scored when Ariel Sandoval singled him home to make it 7-1. Mieses clobbered another three-run homer in the Quakes' four-run seventh inning. The homer was his 16th of the season. He added an eighth inning double to run his total base tally to a dozen with six RBI and four runs scored. Michael Ahmed had three of the Quakes 16 hits..

Houchins finished with two hits for Inland Empire as did Jared Foster. David Fletcher had an eighth inning single to move his hitting streak to 18 games. Inland Empire struck out 12 times in the affair without taking a walk.
