Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

BREMERTON, WA - The Yakima Valley Pippins scored the final six runs of the series finale on Monday night, securing a 7-3 win over the Kitsap BlueJackets.

Gavin Velasquez (Cal State Fullerton) pitched through a season-high four walks, earning his 6th win of the season after allowing three runs, two earned, on just three hits. Trailing 3-1 in the 4th inning, the Yakima Valley Pippins (27-18, 12-6) scored one run in the 4th and 5th innings, tying things up at Gene Lobe Field.

Freddy Smith (Cal State Northridge) kickstarted the rally scoring one run on a wild pitch in the 4th inning, one of his two runs scored. Leadoff hitter Kyle Stahl (Central Washington) then evened the score, 3-3, during the 5th inning with an RBI single. Mikey Filia (UC Irvine) drove in the eventual game-winning run, 4-3, after his RBI base hit.

Jack Sandberg (San Diego) led the Pippins with three hits, including a 2-RBI double later in the 6th inning, providing Yakima Valley the lead for good, 6-3. Seven players would score runs for the Pippins, posting 10 or more hits in all three games of the series.

The Pippins bullpen would take over from that point forward, featuring an initial scoreless inning from Trent Schulte (Gonzaga) followed by a perfect 8th inning from Ryan Garcia (UCLA) out of the bullpen. Connor Zwetsch (Oregon) threw a scoreless 9th inning, closing out the six game road trip 4-2 overall.
