Hey Now, Genao Walks Owlz off in 10

July 26, 2016 - Pioneer League (PL)
Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

OREM, Utah-The Pioneer Day celebration fireworks started early at the Home of the Owlz Monday night as Angel Genao drove an RBI double to center field in the bottom of the 10th inning to score Juan Moreno for a 6-5 Orem Owlz walk-off win over the Billings Mustangs.

In a 5-3 pinch in the bottom of the ninth inning, Genoa breathed life into the Owlz (21-15) with a leadoff single to left. Zach Gibbons tied the game with one swing of the bat as he launched a fly ball over the right-field fence for a two-run home run.

The Owlz struggled early to catch up to Billings (22-15) starting pitcher Antonio Santillan as he breezed through the first three innings in perfection with his fastball flirting with 100 miles per hour. Orem caught up with the heater in the fourth inning as Keith Grieshaber and Zach Gibbons hit back-to-back one-out singles. Nick Flair made Santillan pay as he torched an 0-1 curve ball over the left-field fence for a towering three-run home run to give the Owlz a 3-1 lead.

As the innings were running low for the Mustangs, Billings scored three runs on four hits in the top of the eighth to take a 5-3 lead. With runners on second and third with one out, Tyler Warmouth escaped the inning without further damage as Daniel Sweet popped out to shortstop and Satchel McElroy grounded out to first.

The Owlz had a chance to walk-off in the ninth after Gibbons' homer with runners on second and third with two outs, but Ryan Scott struck out swinging to end the inning.

Andrew Vinson came on to pitch the 10th inning for the Owlz and struck out the Mustangs in order.

After Juan Moreno led off the bottom of the 10th with a single, Jahmai Jones dropped a sacrifice bunt down the first-base line to advance Moreno into scoring position. Genao then stepped into the batter's box and roped the second pitch to center field to plate Moreno for the walk-off 6-5 win.

Orem starter Jonah Wesely pitched one inning in his first rehab start since undergoing Tommy John surgery 367 days ago. Wesely struck out two batters and did not allow any hits.

With two games remaining in the first half of the season, Orem stays one game back of the Idaho Falls Chukars, who beat the Missoula Ospreys by a score of 14-4 Tuesday. The Owlz and Mustangs will meet again Tuesday night at the Home of the Owlz with a game time of 7:05 p.m. MT.
