Hernandez Rehabs as Quakes Rough up Sixers

Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes opened up the seven-game home stand with a bang, blowing out the Inland Empire 66ers, 12-1, on Monday night at LoanMart Field.

Johan Mieses led the charge by going 4-for-5 with two three-run home runs and two doubles, notching twelve total bases in the win. Dodgers rehabber Kike Hernandez went 1-for-4 with a walk as the Quakes won their second straight overall.

Inland Empire jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Zach Houchins hit a solo home run, his 12th of the season for the only offensive production of the night for the 66ers.

In the bottom of the second, Johan Mieses hit his first three-run home run to put the Quakes out in front, 3-1.

Rancho tallied their second three-run inning in the fourth. With two out and nobody on, Ariel Sandoval and Mike Ahmed hit back-to-back singles. After falling behind in the count, Garrett Kennedy ripped a long double to center field, scoring both Sandoval and Ahmed and extending the Quakes lead to 5-1. Kennedy then scored after Erick Mejia hit an RBI to make it 6-1.

To lead off the sixth, Mieses doubled and then scored after Sandoval ripped a single through a drawn-in infield that gave Rancho Cucamonga a 7-1 lead.

The Quakes scored four more runs in the seventh. Mieses hit his second three-run blast of the game, and Mejia drove in another run to extend the lead to 11-1. Rancho capped off the scoring with their 12th run in the eighth inning, when Yusniel Diaz led off with a triple and scored after Brandon Trinkwon hit an RBI groundout.

Rancho Cucamonga had five players tally multi-hit games. Mieses now leads the club with 16 home runs after his two-homer effort.

Josh Sborz (8-4) picked up his first win since June 18th, after pitching five innings. He allowed one earned run on four this and struck out six. Felipe Gonzalez tossed three scoreless innings our of the bullpen and Alex Burgos pitched a clean ninth inning to nail down the win.

Jared Ruxer (0-3) takes the loss after allowing six earned runs on seven hits in four innings. Eric Alonzo allowed a run in his two innings, and Zach Hartman allowed four runs in his inning of work. The Quakes scored their last run off of Jordan Piche.

Dodgers' rehabbing utility player Kike Hernandez is scheduled to continue his rehab on Tuesday night for the Quakes, as he's slated to start as the Quakes engage in game two of the three-game series versus Inland Empire. All Dodgers' rehabbers are sponsored by San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino.

Grant Holmes (7-3, 3.87 ERA) will throw for Rancho in game two, and he'll be opposed by Jake Jewell (1-9, 6.09 ERA), with first pitch at 7:05pm.
