The Eastern League Announce Player and Pitcher of the Week

PORTLAND, ME -The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 18th through July 24th :

Richmond Flying Squirrels outfielder Steven Duggar has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 18th -July 24th . The 22-year old hit .565 (13-for-23) with two doubles, one triple, two RBIs, six runs scored, four stolen bases, five walks and a .739 slugging percentage in seven games last week. Duggar, who is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, reached base at least once in all seven games he appeared in last week and collected multiple hits in four of those games, including going 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and one stolen base in a 4-2 loss at Harrisburg on Thursday. The 6'2", 195 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.565), hits (13) and on-base percentage (.643) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in stolen bases (4-tied 2nd ), OPS (1.382-3rd ), runs scored (6-tied 3rd ), triples (1-tied 3rd ), slugging percentage (.739-4th ), walks (5-tied 4th ) and total bases (17-tied 7th ). Steven, who is hitting .301 (25-for-83) in 21 games with the Flying Squirrels since getting promoted from Class-A San Jose on June 30th, was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round of the 2015 draft after batting .304 with five home runs, 56 runs scored and 43 RBIs in 61 games during his junior season at Clemson.

Andrew Suarez, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 18th -July 24th . The 6'2", 205 lb. hurler started a pair of games for the Flying Squirrels last week and had a record of 2-0 with 18 strikeouts and a 2.77 ERA. Suarez, who is a native of Miami, Florida, made his first start of the week on Monday against the visiting Akron RubberDucks and fired seven strong innings to earn the win in Richmond's 6-2 victory.

He tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts while giving up two runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings. Andrew made his second start of the week on Sunday at Harrisburg and gave up two runs on six hits while striking out eight batters and walking one over six innings in a 6-2 win over the Senators. The 23-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts (18) last week and tied for the lead in wins (2). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in innings pitched (13.0-tied 3rd ), batting average against (.204-8th ) and WHIP (1.08-10th ). Andrew was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the second round of the 2015 draft after posting a record of 9-2 with 78 strikeouts and a 3.48 ERA in 16 games as a redshirt junior at the University of Miami.
