Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - Before tonight's game, the Worcester Bravehearts (30-14) had run into a bit of a skid in their terms. Since the All-Star Game, the Bravehearts had gone 5-5, while still maintaining an eight game lead in the division. As the team looked to lock in for the final push of the regular season, they finished off a Suns comeback with a walk-off home run from Nick Rybarczyk (Marist/Chicago, IL) in the bottom of the ninth to seal a 5-3 victory over Pittsfield at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

The Bravehearts received another solid outing from starting pitcher Mason Feole (UConn/Coventry, RI) as the rising freshman went six shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walk while striking out five Suns batters as well. He did not factor in the decision.

Pittsfield countered with Nicholas Hawrylciw (Becker/Amesbury, MA, who lasted just four innings, giving up three runs on four hits, while adding one strikeout. He was touched on early by Worcester, as Matt Diesel (Felecian/Massapequa, N.Y.) roped a RBI double to score the first run of the game. Dante Ricciardi (St. Petersburg/West Boylston, MA) followed with a RBI single scoring Diesel, making the lead 2-0 after the second inning.

The Bravehearts added a third run in the fourth as Diesel grounded out to second but scored Zack Tower (Franklin Pierce/Auburn, MA) to make it 3-0 Worcester.

The Suns, however, wouldn't quit. They finally got on the board in the eighth after Colin Ridley (Maine/Harwich, MA) hit a double which scored one, followed by a sacrifice fly from Spencer Tinkel (Holy Cross/New Hope, PA) closing the gap to one run and making it 3-2 Worcester. They would then tie it up in the ninth on a blown save from Peter Bovenzi (Richmond/Lunenburg, MA), thanks to a RBI single up the middle, tying the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the ninth with one out already, Rybarczyk stepped up and hit a two-run shot just over the fence in left-center field that would win the game for the Bravehearts. This was Rybarczyk's second homerun of the summer.

The Worcester Bravehearts' next game is on Tuesday, July 26th as they play visitor to the Pittsfield Suns in Pittsfield at Waconah Park at 7:05 PM. Tickets for all future Bravehearts home games are available at the Hanover Insurance Park box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
