The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs (17-25) refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against the Pittsfield Suns (16-25), recording a 14-7 victory on Saturday at Doyle Field. Seven runs in the first three innings allowed the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs to put the game away early. An RBI double by Austin Young, a wild pitch, an RBI single by TJ Ward, an RBI single by Ward, a single by Ben Bavly, a groundout by Kyle Bonicki, and a groundout by Bonicki in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Ryne Ogren during the second inning helped the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs put some runs on the board early. Young racked up three RBIs on four hits for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. The Pittsfield Suns couldn't get anything going as long as Joe Thomas was pitching. Thomas held the Pittsfield Suns hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two. Conor Moriarty went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for the Pittsfield Suns. He singled in the third and fifth innings. Cameron Scotia got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed two runs over 2 2/3 innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered three hits. Craig Lacey ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in four innings, walked five and struck out two. The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs pounded the Pittsfield Suns pitching, as seven hitters combined for 18 hits, nine RBIs and 12 runs scored.
