Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

BROOKLYN,NY - The Cyclones defeated the Staten Island Yankees by the score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon, collecting their first win at home against the cross-bridge rivals since August 31, 2014, snapping a seven game home losing skid against the Baby Bombers. Five Cyclones pitchers combined on Brooklyn's second shutout win of the season.

LHP Thomas Szapucki shined in his Cyclones debut, tossing 5.1 shutout frames, scattering four hits and walking three while striking out eight before turning it over to a Brooklyn bullpen that didn't allow a base runner over the final 3.2 frames to complete the shutout.

Brooklyn opened the scoring in the second inning when Desmond Lindsay had an RBI groundout that plated Nick Sergakis and gave the Cyclones a 1-0 edge.

After a pair of scoreless frames, the Cyclones tacked on solo run in the fifth when Michael Paez hit a fly ball to right field that Timmy Robinson lost in the sun, which allowed Arnaldo Berrios to score, making it 2-0. The 'Clones would tack on another insurance run in the sixth, this time courtesy of a bases loaded walked of Gene Cone to cap the scoring and extend Brooklyn's advantage to 3-0.

That would be more than enough offense as Kyle Regnault, Adam Atkins, Taylor Henry and Joe Zanghi combined for 3.2 innings of perfect relief. The group did not allow a base runner while striking out five. For Zanghi, it was his second save of the season.

The Cyclones (17-19) will to make it three in a row when they take in these same Staten Island Yankees on Monday evening at MCU Park. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a portable iPod speaker and after the game EVERYONE gets to run the bases. Tickets start at just $10 and are available now by calling 718-507-TIXX, logging on to BrooklynCyclones.com or in person at the MCU Park Box Office.
