July 24, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release

Vancouver, B.C.- The Vancouver Canadians dropped a fifth consecutive game on Sunday afternoon, and fourth straight to Eugene, as the Emeralds scored a trio of runs in the top of the 8th inning to break a 2-2 tie and improve to 27-10 on the Northwest League season. The final, Eugene 5, Vancouver 3.

Canadians RF J.B. Woodman was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to bump his season average to .302 while SS Deiferson Barreto smacked his 1st home run of the season to open the scoring in the top of the 3rd inning.

On the mound, Canadians starter RHP Patrick Murphy went six innings allowing just three hits, allowing a pair of earned runs, walking four and striking out six. In the 8th inning, with the game even at 2-2, Vancouver reliever RHP Zack Jackson ran into trouble allowing three runs, on four hits and a pair of walks as the University of Arkansas standout absorbed his first professional loss as Vancouver fell behind 5-2 and could never recover.

It was Woodman's double in the bottom of the 8th inning that scored 2B Cavan Biggio (hit by pitch) bringing the Canadians to within a pair, but Eugene closer RHP Mark Malave was perfect in the 9th inning to secure the victory and send Vancouver to a fifth consecutive loss dating back to the series finale in Spokane (July 20).

With the defeat, the Canadians are 16-21 on the season, while Eugene closes in on a franchise best 27-10 with the victory and now look to hand Vancouver a five-game sweep at home should they top the Canadians on Monday at 7:05pm.

The Canadians announced that Monday's game is SOLD OUT. But tickets to the C's upcoming home stand that starts on Friday, July 29th through Sunday July 31st are still available by calling 604.872.5232, online at www.canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
