Charleston RiverDogs News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Charleston RiverDogs faced a tall task with two Big Leaguers on rehab assignment set to take the hill for the Suns, but Jhalan Jackson didn't let it faze him. The RiverDogs right fielder crushed a 459 foot blast off of Major Leaguer Sammy Solis in the top of the fourth to put Charleston on top, but the RiverDogs fell, 3-2, to Hagerstown on Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

Jackson's home run followed three innings of a dominant showing by Washington National Joe Ross who tossed three innings allowing just two hits to hold the RiverDogs' bats in check early. With two outs, Jackson cranked the solo shot to center off of Solis to put Charleston on the board.

Adonis Rosa (0-1) looked sharp early in his South Atlantic League debut for the RiverDogs, but struggled the second time around the order. After giving up just an infield single through the first three innings, the Suns would rip four hits to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 advantage. With one out, Hagerstown third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez singled on a line shot to right before right fielder Rhett Wiseman followed suit with a base hit to center. Grant DeBruin gave the Suns the lead with a double down the right field line. With two outs, Matt Page smacked a double to the wall in right-center to make it 3-1. Rosa took the loss allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits while recording six punch outs.

James Bourque was solid following up the duo of Major League hurlers for Hagerstown, but would give way in the eighth as the RiverDogs rallied. Nathan Mikolas doubled to left field to lead off the inning and came around to score on an RBI ground out to short by Charleston catcher Luis Torrens.

Facing a former RiverDog, Phillip Walby, in the ninth, Charleston didn't make it easy on the former Yankees farmhand, putting runners at the corners before the Suns righty would pick up the high pressure save. With two outs, Gosuke Katoh doubled on a deep fly ball to center off of his former teammate and Chris Godinez roped a line drive comebacker to the mound before Mikolas grounded out to short to end the threat.

RiverDogs shortstop Hoy Jun Park went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk and swiped three more bases to bring his season total to a team leading 23 on the year.
