Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Home runs from Randy Cesar, Dexture McCall, and Pat Porter helped the Quad Cities River Bandits thrash the Bowling Green Hot Rods 9-3 in the series opener on Saturday night in front of 4,539 fans at Modern Woodmen Park. The three Bandit long balls were the most Quad Cities combined to hit in a game this season. McCall drove in a season-high four runs while going 3-for-4 in the win.

The Bandits (16-13, 47-51) opened the scoring onslaught in the first inning. Myles Straw started the frame with a single to extend his hitting streak to ten games. Kristian Trompiz reached with the help of an error and Kyle Tucker drove home Straw with a sac-fly to start the scoring. McCall followed with a run-scoring single and Porter reached on a fielder's choice. Cesar capped off the frame with his first home run as a Bandit in just his second game for the squad. The two-run shot made it 4-0 Quad Cities on top of Bowling Green (17-11, 54-43).

The Bandits doubled the lead in the third. Trompiz led off with a double to break a six-game hitless streak and Tucker followed with a walk. McCall crushed a three-run homer to left and Porter followed with his team-high sixth long ball of the season to give Quad Cities an 8-0 advantage.

Chris Murphy (4-6) matched his season and career-high with a seven-inning start for the Bandits. Murphy took the victory, allowing just one run on five hit and one hit batter. The right-hander struck out two.

The Hot Rods broke the shutout bid in the sixth. Matt Eureste tripled to lead off the frame and Brandon Lowe doubled to bring him home and make it an 8-1 game. Quad Cities countered in the bottom of the sixth. Connor Goedert drew a walk and scored on a double from Anthony Hermelyn to make it 9-1 in favor of Quad Cities.

The Hot Rods cut into the deficit in the ninth, but the comeback would come up short. Brett Sullivan led off the ninth with a double and Kewby Meyer knocked a homer to right field to cut Quad Cities' lead to six runs, 9-3. Justin Ferrell would retire the next two batters on groundouts though to end the game and secure the series opener for the River Bandits.

Roel Ramirez (4-8) dropped his eighth decision of the season in a three-inning start for Bowling Green. The righty allowed eight runs, four earned, on six hits and a walk. Ramirez gave up all three Bandit homers. Bryan Bonnell settled down the offense, allowing just one run over three innings of relief while striking out five.

The River Bandits look to take the series a day early with RHP Hector Perez (0-0, 0.00) making his first appearance for Quad Cities in game two on Sunday. RHP Jose Mujica (5-3, 4.15) gets the nod for Bowling Green in the 5:15 p.m. first pitch. You can catch the broadcast with Jake Levy and Lance Ragland, starting with the LLOYD Agencies Pregame Show at 5:00 p.m. on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app.
