Mystic Schooners News Release

NEW BEDFORD - The Schooners four game winning streak comes to an end in a six inning rain shortened game.

It was as back and forth as you can get early on. In the first inning Nick Mascelli walked and was brought in by Rich Slenker to give the Schooners a 1-0 lead heading to the second.

In the second the Bay Sox jumped on top with an offensive attack. Five runs came across with a solo home run, two doubles and a base hit to bring the Bay Sox lead to 5-1 at the end of the second inning.

The Schooners immediately tied it up with four runs in the third. Alex LeFevre scored on a wild pitch, Martin Figueroa doubled in a run and eventually scored on a wild pitch and CJ Moore brought in a run with an RBI single.

The Bay Sox took the lead right back with a solo home run by Ryan Baldwin to give them a 6-5 lead going to the top of the fourth.

In the fourth, Chase Lunceford hit a fly ball to left that scored Toby Handley to tie the game at six. But the Bay Sox struck for four more runs in the home half to bring their lead to 10-6.

With the score the same in the sixth, Nick Mascelli singled with one out. Directly after that there was a rain delay that lasted an hour and 27 minutes.

The Schooners were ready to go after the delay. Rich Slenker sent his second home run over the left field fence and Figueroa tripled and scored on a throwing error to make the score 10-9.

With the score still 10-9 in the top of the seventh, Mystic had the bases loaded with two outs and a full count. The umpires called another rain delay and eventually stopped the game short giving the Schooners the loss. The umpires concluded that the top of the seventh would not count.

With the loss the Schooners fall to 22-13 on the season. Their next game will be home on Saturday against the Danbury Westerners, first pitch is scheduled for 6:05.
