July 1, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Tyler Mapes pitched well on Friday night, but the Senators couldn't get the big hit and fell 4-2 to the Reading Fightin Phils. The Senators (42-37) lost their third straight and fourth in their past five games since finishing a successful 4-2 road trip through the Northeast last Sunday. Reading continued rolling with the win and they are now 58-23 overall and 32-9 at home.

Mapes tossed three shutout innings before running into trouble in the fourth. A single, followed by an error on a potential double-play ball opened the innings for the Fightins'. Dylan Cozens doubled in a run, then Rhys Hoskins singled in a pair giving Reading a 3-0 lead. Jorge Alfaro homered in the fourth to give Reading a 4-0 lead.

Mapes went 5.2 innings and allowed three earned runs. Nick Lee tossed one-third of an inning to finish the sixth. Wander Suero pitched a scoreless seventh allowing. Jonathan Papelbon pitched a scoreless eighth inning in a rehab outing for the Nationals.

The Senators couldn't muster much offense with just five hits off Reading starter Tyler Viza, who pitched seven scoreless innings. Wilmer Difo had three hits and Spencer Kieboom had two hits for the Senators

Harrisburg rallied in the eighth, loading the bases with one out, but could only plate one run, leaving the bases loaded. Isaac Ballou drove in the run in the eighth with a single and Rafael Bautista drove in the Senators second run with a single in the ninth. The Senators did bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Andrew Stevenson lined out to end the game.

Harrisburg and Reading will play the third of four games on Saturday night, beginning at 6:35. Michael Brady will take the hill for Harrisburg against Reading's Mark Leiter, Jr. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1460 AM, on the internet at senatorsbaseball.com, or through the TuneIn and iHeart Radio apps with The Matt LeCroy Show beginning the radio broadcast at 6:20 p.m.
