Straw Rallies River Bandits in Comeback Win

Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Quad Cities River Bandits got a five-hit day from Myles Straw and plated four ninth-inning runs for a comeback win, 5-3, over the Kane County Cougars Friday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. It was the Bandits third straight win and put them over .500 for a half for the first time this season. Matt Bower had a career-high 11 strikeouts in six innings but got no decision for his efforts.
Trailing 2-1, Pat Porter led off the top of the ninth with a single for the River Bandits (5-4, 36-42). An error put runners at the corners before Christian Correa bounced an infield single to tie the game. Bobby Wernes gave the Bandits the lead with a shot into right-center to plate Connor Goedert before Straw's fifth hit of the day plated two important insurance runs.
Straw's career day featured the career-high five hits, a run scored, two RBI, a stolen base and an outfield assist in the ninth inning. Entering the ninth, he had four of the five total hits the Cougars (2-7, 35-44) had allowed in the game. Straw's previous career high was three hits in a game, which he had done eight times.
Both runs off Bower came in the third inning. RBI-singles from Grant Heyman and Austin Byler plated the opening runs of the game. But Bower would strike out six straight after the last single and go on to retire the final ten batters he faced to keep Quad Cities in the game. Justin Ferrell (4-4) allowed one ninth-inning run in three innings of relief to get the victory, striking out a pair. Drew Muren (BS, 2; L, 0-1) surrendered the late rally to suffer the loss.
Quad Cities had been 0-30 when trailing after eight innings before Friday night. The comeback win puts the River Bandits within one win of their longest win-streak of the year, a four-game stretch from April 19 through 22 - with two of those wins coming against Kane County.
The Bandits look to match their longest winning streak of the year Saturday in the middle game of the three-game set with the Cougars. Franklin Perez (1-1, 3.23) gets the nod for Quad Cities against Justin Donatella (6-4, 3.82) for the Cougars. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and you can join Jake Levy for the radio broadcast, starting with the LLOYD Agencies Pregame Show on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app.
