WV Power lose to Fireflies

(Charleston, WV - July 1, 2016)- The West Virginia Power fell 2-0 to the Columbia Fireflies in game two of the four game series Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. Gage Hinsz gave up just a pair of runs in five innings, however the Power offense was shutout for the fourth time this season.
Columbia broke open the scoring with a run in the first against Hinsz on a run scoring double play in the first. Dash Winnigham singled in a run in the third to put the Fireflies up 2-0.
Hinsz (1-3) allowed two runs, one earned, and seven hits through five innings while striking four.
Firefly starter Bryce Beeler (1-0) shutout the Power through six and a third innings, allowing just three hits and a walk in his South Atlanic League debut.
Jess Amedee and Cesilio Pimentel tossed four scoreless innings to close the game, giving up two hits while striking out six.
West Virginia loaded the bases in the seventh with one out, however reliever Tyler Bashlor retired Tyler Filliben and Alfredo Reyes to stymie the threat.
The Power would not pick up another baserunner the remainder of the game as the Fireflies evened up the series winning 2-0.
The two teams play game three of the series Saturday night. Mitch Keller starts for the Power, matched up against Firefly starter Gaby Almonte. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. at Appalachian Power Park. The team is also hosting an Independence Day celebration with holiday themed postgame fireworks scheduled for the conclusion of the game.
$1.00 from every ticket sold during the homestand will be donated to the American Red Cross- West Virginia Region to help ongoing flood relief efforts in the state.
