Lake Monsters-Staten Island Game Suspended in 1st Inning
July 1, 2016 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
STATEN ISLAND, NY --- The New York-Penn League game between the Vermont Lake Monsters and Staten Island Yankees Friday night at Richmond County Ballpark was suspended by rain in the bottom of the first inning. The nine-inning game will be completed on Saturday starting at 5:00 pm and followed by the night's scheduled game (now by a seven-inning contest).
The start of the game was delayed 20 minutes as the groundscrew completed work on the field after pre-game rain. When it got started Vermont's Luis Barrera led off with a walk, but was caught stealing before Yankees starter Anyelo Gomez struckout Tyler Ramirez (playing in his first Lake Monsters game) and Miguel Mercedes to end the top of the first.
After Vermont starter Xavier Altamirano retired Ricardo Ferriera to leadoff the bottom of the first inning, the umpires called for the tarp and the game was delayed for about 90 minutes before being suspended. Since the scheduled nine-inning game had started, it will resume on Saturday with one out in the bottom of the first inning and played to completion. The two teams will then play a seven-inning game starting 30 minutes later.
