New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS - Jason Middlebrooks drilled three hits and added a pair of RBI as the Sky Sox defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 7-3 in the series opener.

The teams played two innings when the skies opened up and forced a one hour and forty seven minute rain delay. Neither starter was able to return forcing both bullpens into action.

Destin Hood doubled in the fourth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from Tomas Telis. The lead was short-lived for the Z's as the Sox tied the game in the bottom of the frame. Sky Sox took advantage of a two out error and scored the go-ahead run on a Middlebrooks RBI single.

The game remained 2-1 until the seventh inning when the Sky Sox added a pair of runs and then in the eighth added three more run to extend the lead to 7-1.

The Zephyrs scratched out a couple of runs in the ninth inning but lost for the fourth time in their last five games.

Brent Suter earned the win in relief and Greg Nappo took the loss. The Zephyrs fall to 37-41 on the season and the Sky Sox improve to 39-38.
