'Hawks Fall in Eleven Innings

Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

Once again Fargo-Moorhead and Sioux City had to finish their game the day after it started. A major weather delay on Wednesday caused the start of the eighth inning to be played Thursday, and the Explorers won 7-6 in the eleventh at Newman Outdoor Field.

Game two started very similarly to game one of the series, with the home team jumping out early. They scored four runs in the second thanks to a solo home run by Josh Mazzola, a two-run double by Kes Carter, and an RBI single by Bryan Johns.

The X's didn't strike back until the fifth and sixth innings, when they put three on the board in each to take a 6-4 lead. Mistakes cost the home team dearly as one of those runs came on a passed ball and another came in on an error. Thankfully in the seventh, Ryan Pineda blasted a two-run homer to tie the game back up. After that inning the league rule where a new inning cannot be started after 12:00 a.m. caused the game to be suspended until Thursday.

In the eleventh Michael Lang came in on a wild pitch take a 7-6 lead. The bottom of the inning had the 'Hawks going 1-2-3 to put an end to game two of the marathon series.

Rob Wort (1-2) was the winner and Colton Reavis (0-3) took the loss. The series finale will be played Thursday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
