Match Preview: Fury FC Visit Comos in Fall Season Opener

Ottawa Fury FC News Release

OTTAWA, ON - The second half of the NASL season kicks off Saturday night and just as Ottawa did to open the 2016 Spring Season, they will travel to New York to face the Cosmos in the Fall Season opener. 20 days have passed since Fury FC last took to the field in a 1-1 draw against Rayo OKC closing out their Spring campaign at TD Place.

Ottawa is a much different side than the team that opened the season against New York - the confidence has grown, as has the chemistry. Fury FC found their stride midway through the Spring Season as Paul Dalglish's offensive style of soccer began to firmly take shape. Add to that an impressive run in the Amway Canadian Championship that saw Ottawa capture an impressive and dominant 2-0 win over the Whitecaps in the first leg of the Semi-Final before falling 3-2 on aggregate with Vancouver claiming victory in the home leg.

Having played five games in three weeks to finish off the first half of the season, the break came at the right time to alleviate fatigue and rest the wounded with the injury list growing larger by the match.

"We needed that break," said Dalglish. "The players were beat up from the accumulation of games so that rest was very beneficial to us. It gave players the time to recover from their little injuries and be fully fit now. The players showed good things during the last two weeks of training on and off the pitch so we hope to see that on Saturday."

Without necessarily having revenge on their mind, Fury FC will want to show the Cosmos that they are a very different team than when they first faced each other in early April.

"They're a top team and we have a bitter taste in our mouths from the first game we played them in the Spring Season," said Dalglish. "I think we were a much better side than what the score line showed. We're going there hungry, knowing that we can cause them problems. We are a much better team now than when we first played them, so we are going to New York with a lot of confidence."

After the game in New York, Fury FC will be back at TD Place on July 10 to welcome Rayo OKC in Fall Season home opener.
