Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Tomahawks are pleased to announce their schedule for the 2016-2017 regular season, marking their fifth year anniversary in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).
The Tomahawks will play 60 total games, including 28 home games at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. The home schedule includes 12 games played on Friday, 13 played on Saturday nights, two Sunday afternoon games and one Thursday night game.
Johnstown will continue to play in the East Division, along with four other teams: Aston Rebels, New Jersey Titans, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights and a new franchise from Massachusetts, the Northeast Generals.
The season kicks off on the road against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on September 9. The Tomahawks remain on the road for the month of October.
The Tomahawks home opening weekend is set for FRIDAY and SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11-12 against division-rival Aston. The Tomahawks will try to avenge their loss as they were defeated by the division-champion Rebels in the second round of the 2016 Robertson Cup playoffs.
The Tomahawks take on the Knights on Thanksgiving weekend on November 25-26 at the War Memorial Arena.
December will have four home games, including two against a new opponent for the Tomahawks, the Generals on December 3-4. Johnstown will also face the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the Midwest Division on December 30-31.
The Tomahawks have seven home games in January, including a weekend stand with the Kenai River Brown Bears on the 6, 7 and 8. Last season Johnstown swept the Brown Bears, winning all four games against the Midwest Division team.
On January 20-21, the Tomahawks will face a familiar opponent in New Jersey, who they defeated in three games in the first round of the Robertson Cup playoffs, before taking on the Knights for a second home stand on January 27-28.
February also features homes games against the Generals starting on February 2, 3 and 4, the Rebels on February 17-18, and the Knights on February 24-25. Four home games in March will be played against Aston on March 17-18 and the Titans on March 24-25.
The Tomahawks will end their regular season at home against the Aston Rebels on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8
With the release of its 2016-2017 schedule, the Tomahawks now turn their attention to filling out their roster. Main Camp will be held at Planet Ice in Johnstown July 14-17.
