Davidson Recalled to Chicago, Purke Optioned to Charlotte

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Charlotte Knights third baseman Matt Davidson, who was named as a 2016 International League All-Star yesterday, has been recalled to the Chicago White Sox today. Davidson will take the roster spot in Chicago of LHP Matt Purke, who was optioned to Charlotte after last night's game against Minnesota. Charlotte's active roster is currently set at 24 players.
Davidson, 25, is the 15th different player promoted to the Chicago White Sox this season from Charlotte. RHP Erik Johnson (April 19, May 5 & May 23), catcher Kevan Smith (April 24), RHP Miguel Gonzalez (April 25 & May 9), catcher Hector Sanchez (April 26), RHP Daniel Webb (April 27), infielder Carlos Sanchez (April 28), RHP Tommy Kahnle (April 29, May 5, May 23 & June 3), RHP Scott Carroll (May 6), LHP Matt Purke (May 13), outfielder J.B. Shuck (May 30), outfielder Jason Coats (June 4 & June 10), shortstop Tim Anderson (June 10), RHP Michael Ynoa (June 14), and RHP Chris Beck (June 21), are the others who have been promoted to the White Sox this year.
For the season, Davidson is hitting .268 (76-for-284) with 35 runs scored, 20 doubles, 10 home runs, and 46 RBIs with the Charlotte Knights in 75 games. The Yucaipa, CA native is currently tied for the International League lead in doubles (20), is fifth in RBIs (46), and is tied for fourth in extra-base hits (30). Last season, he was an International League All-Star and led the league in home runs after hitting 23. For his Knights career, which began in 2014, Davidson has compiled 53 career home runs -- which is ranked fourth all-time in Charlotte Knights franchise history.
Purke, 25, went 0-1 with a 5.50 ERA over 12 relief appearances with the Chicago White Sox this season (18.0 IP). A native of Nacogdoches, TX, Purke began the season with the Charlotte Knights and compiled a 0-0 mark with a 2.30 ERA in 10 games (one start).
The first place Charlotte Knights will open a four-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA tonight.
