Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Despite another stellar start from Jordan Stephens, the Dash dropped an 11-inning marathon at Potomac on Wednesday afternoon. Max Schrock's two-out RBI single proved to be the difference in the deciding frame.

With runners on first and second and one out, Schrock delivered against Winston-Salem right-hander Jacob Morris (0-3). The 21-year-old second baseman finished the contest 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs in his second High-A game.

Potomac relievers Trey Lambert, Gilberto Mendez and R.C. Orlan (4-2) combined to post 5.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, with Orlan picking up the win. The Dash (3-3, 31-45) are now 2-4 in extra-inning games this season.

Lost in the mix, Stephens delivered his fifth straight quality start. The right-hander went six innings, allowing just one run and striking out eight batters. His lone blemish was a one-out solo homer by Schrock in the sixth inning, ending a 20.2 scoreless innings streak for the former Rice Owl.

Down 2-1 in the eighth, Potomac (5-0, 39-34) evened the contest against Dash righty Danny Dopico in what ended up being a bizarre inning. With Osvaldo Abreu running from first and one out, Jose Marmolejos smacked what looked to be a game-tying RBI double. But, after an appeal at second and a long delay, both umpires concluded Abreu touched second base twice and was ruled out on a fielder's choice. Coincidentally, Raudy Read followed with an RBI double to make it a 2-2 ballgame.

With the loss, Winston-Salem falls to 4-6 overall against the P-Nats and at 2-4 at Pfitzner Stadium. The Dash still have eight games against the P-Nats, who are the CL's lone undefeated club in the second half.

Both teams were held off the scoreboard through the first five innings, but the Dash broke the seal in the sixth against Potomac starter Matt Crownover. With runners at first and third and one out, Toby Thomas stroked an RBI single to give Winston-Salem a 1-0 edge. The Dash second baseman went 3-for-4 at the plate on Wednesday, including his team-leading 20th double of the season.

Thomas would be the last batter Crownover faced. Lambert relieved the Potomac starter and subsequently yielded an RBI single to Chris O'Dowd to put the Dash up two. In total, Crownover went 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and the Dash's lone two runs.

Ryan Riga, making just his second appearance for Winston-Salem, came into the game in the seventh and tossed a scoreless frame. Telvin Nash, in his sixth straight start with the Dash since joining the team last Thursday, went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Wednesday's contest lasted three hours and 44 minutes, the third-longest game of the season for Winston-Salem.

The Dash travel to Delaware to play a four-game set against the Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium that begins at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday. Winston-Salem sends right-hander Spencer Adams (7-5, 3.52 ERA) to the hill against Wilmington southpaw Colin Rodgers (2-4, 3.86 ERA). The Pregame Dash begins at 6:20 p.m., and fans can tune in on 600 AM-WSJS, wsjs.com or the TuneIn Radio App.

#YourHomeTeam returns to BB&T Ballpark on Monday for a Fourth of July extravaganza. The Dash and the City of Winston-Salem are teaming up for an afternoon and evening of fun that begins at 4 p.m. and continues through the extended Independence Day Fireworks show after the Dash's 7 p.m. game.
