(Rochester, NY) - Rusney Castillo helped build a lead that reliever Chandler Shepherd would secure as the Pawtucket Red Sox eclipsed the Rochester Red Wings, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon to secure a series win at Frontier Field.

Castillo jumped on Rochester starter Logan Darnell's (8-6) curveball in the second inning for a two-run home run (2) that put the PawSox (41-39) ahead, 2-0.

After the Red Wings (46-34) tied the game at two, Castillo helped bring home the go-ahead run in the sixth. He singled, stole second base and scored on a two-out single into left field from Chris Dominguez.

Pawtucket's one-run lead was never in jeopardy because Shepherd set down all nine batters he faced, striking out three, in the final three frames. He combined with starter Roenis Elias (5-3) to set down the final 15 Rochester hitters of the game.

Shepherd has retired each of the last 19 batters he has faced dating to his first Triple-A appearance on June 21. He has not allowed a run in seven Triple-A innings pitched.

The PawSox out-hit the Red Wings, 12-3, but had to hold on for a one-run victory because the team left 12 runners on base in the game.

Pawtucket left the bases loaded in the eighth and stranded two runners in the fifth inning thanks to a circus play by Rochester. Justin Maxwell popped up a ball behind the mound that bounced off the cap of the third baseman Miguel Sano. The first baseman James Beresford dove to catch the ricochet and end the threat.

Elias allowed two runs, one earned, on only three hits in six innings for the victory. The lefthander is 5-0 in his last seven Triple-A starts.

Rochester used a hit batter, a ground-rule double and Carlos Paulino's sacrifice fly to get on the board and cut Pawtucket's lead to 2-1 in the third inning.

Two frames later, a walk, an error, a sacrifice bunt and Paulino's RBI groundout tied the game, 2-2.

Brock Holt and Ryan Hanigan both continued their rehabilitation assignment for the PawSox, starting a day game after they both played nine innings on Tuesday night.

Holt played five innings in left field, going 0-for-3 at the plate.

Hanigan played five innings at catcher, going 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk. He also caught Buck Britton attempting to steal second base in the fourth inning.

Chris Marrero, who earlier in the day was selected to the International League All-Star Team, went 2-for-4.

Pawtucket improved to 5-4 in rubber matches this season, while also upping its record to 5-2 at Frontier Field.

The PawSox open a four-game, holiday-weekend series against the Columbus Clippers tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Pawtucket righthander and reigning IL Pitcher of the Week Sean O'Sullivan (6-2, 2.79) is scheduled to take the mound against Columbus righty Will Roberts (6-5, 4.24). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM) and throughout the PawSox radio network begins at 6:35 p.m.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday's contests will all feature post-game fireworks shows. Good seats for each of the games against the Clippers are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office; call (401) 724-7300 or visit pawsox.com to get your tickets today.
