Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts scored a pair in three straight innings in the middle of Tuesday night's contest with the Texas AirHogs to come away with a 6-2 victory at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Neither team scored in the first three innings, as both starting pitchers limited the base runners early. Texas (16-22) struck first, with Burt Reynolds leading off the fourth with his league-leading 16th homer of the season.
The Wingnuts (22-15) answered right back with a long ball of their own in the home half. Martin Medina launched a two-run shot to left center against AirHog starter Sam Martin (2-2), his first homer with Wichita, giving the home team a 2-1 edge.
Wichita added to their lead in the next frame, as Dustin Geiger singled home a pair with two outs to push the margin to three.
Texas got a run back in the sixth, with Austin Gallagher blooping an RBI single to right to make it 4-2.
The single by Gallagher represented the final run of the night for Texas, as Tim Brown (4-2) collected his second straight quality start and win, allowing two runs in six innings.
The Wingnuts added two more in the home half of the sixth, putting the lead out of reach for the AirHogs. Zack Cox brought in a run with a single, and Brent Clevlen added an RBI double, giving him his 200th in a Wingnut uniform, a franchise record.
Jesse Pratt came in behind Brown, and the rookie righty retired all nine he faced to collect his first professional save.
The Wingnuts and AirHogs continue their four-game series Wednesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Right-hander Alex Boshers (3-2, 3.37) will be on the hill for Wichita, while Texas will turn to fellow righty Matt Shepherd (1-3, 4.37). First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
