Lansing Lugnuts News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - Connor Panas homered for the third straight game, Ryan Borucki tossed seven strong innings, and the Lansing Lugnuts (5-1, 41-35) defeated the Great Lakes Loons (3-3, 32-44), 4-1, on Tuesday night at Dow Diamond.
The Lugnuts have won seven of their last eight games.
Borucki (Win, 5-3) turned in his third consecutive quality start, scattering four singles, striking out four and holding the Loons off the board. The left-hander has not walked a batter in his last 21 innings.
Great Lakes starter Isaac Anderson (Loss, 5-4) nearly matched him, striking out nine batters in six innings, but he was done in by a run in the first inning and a Panas two-run homer in the fourth. It was the Torontonian's sixth home run in his last ten games and his eighth of the season to tie All-Star first baseman Juan Kelly for the team lead.
Panas finished the game 2-for-4, his fifth straight game with two hits and his 16th straight game reaching base.
Designated hitter Max Pentecost was 1-for-3 with a single, a hit-by-pitch and two runs scored, extending his own consecutive on-base streak to 23 games.
Tom Robson (Save, 1) recorded the final six outs for Lansing, allowing a run in the eighth before pitching a clean ninth for his first professional save.
The Lugnuts and Loons play the third of their four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. Right-hander Jordan Romano (1-0, 1.23) starts opposite Great Lakes right-hander Imani Abdullah (1-2, 2.84).
The Lugnuts return to Cooley Law School Stadium in time for Independence Day! Go Nuts for special 4th of July LAFCU Fireworks with gates opening at 5 p.m., 50% off all drinks from 5-6 p.m., and a 7:05 p.m. first pitch against the Dayton Dragons.
