Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC - The Asheville Tourists dominated the Augusta GreenJackets for nearly all of Tuesday night but only took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning. Augusta put a rally together to make things interesting, but in the end Asheville held on to win 3-1.

Brian Mundell put the Tourists on the board in the top of the third with an RBI double to score Carlos Herrera. Mundell added another RBI base hit in the fifth when he plated Scott Burcham from second base with a single. Sam Hilliard led off the sixth with a towering Home Run to centerfield to give the Tourists a 3-0 lead.

Asheville had some opportunities to add runs late, but Augusta worked their way out of bases loaded jams in the top of the eighth and the top of the ninth.

The GreenJackets strung together three straight singles to begin the top of the ninth. Alexander Guillen buckled down after that by inducing a groundout followed by back-to-back strikeouts to end the game. Jesus Tinoco was awarded the win; his first of the season. Tinoco tossed seven shutout innings and scattered six hits.

Mundell and Herrera each recorded three hits for Asheville while Hilliard and Yonathan Daza both finished with a pair. The Tourists finished with 12 hits in the game but left 11 runners on base. Jake McCasland suffered the loss for the GreenJackets. The right-hander allowed all three of Asheville's runs over the course of six innings pitched.

The two teams wrap up their series on Wednesday afternoon with a 12:05pm game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
