Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV )- The West Virginia Power knocked off the Lexington Legends 3-2 Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park. Casey Hughston and Logan Ratledge hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the first and the Power never looked back, capturing game two of the series.
Casey Hughston got the Power started with a leadoff home run over the right field wall on the fourth pitch of the game from Legends starter Emilio Ogando. Two pitches later Logan Ratledge followed with his first home run of the season, blasting the ball beyond the left field fence to make it 2-0. It's the second time this season West Virginia has hit back-to-back home runs this season after they accomplished the feat May 1 against Asheville.
Lexington got on the board with a run in the second on a run scoring double by Xavier Fernandez off West Virginia starter Logan Sendelbach. The Power got the run back in the bottom half. Following a two out single by Logan Ratledge, Ke'Bryan Hayes knocked an opposite field RBI single to right to put the Power up 3-1.
The Legends cut the deficit to a run in the fourth on a solo home run to right by Xavier Fernandez.
However that would close the scoring as both teams were shutout through the final six frames. Sendelbach scattered five hits and two runs over five innings, while striking out four. The Power improved to 12-3 in games started by the right-hander.
Daniel Zamora earned his second hold of the year tossing three innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three. Cesilio Pimentel notched his second save of the season, facing the minimum in the ninth to preserve the 3-2 victory.
Ogando (4-9) received the loss after giving up three runs and eight hits across five innings.
Ratledge finished 4-4 with an RBI, the first four hit game of his professional career, to the lead the way for the Power.
West Virginia and Lexington play the rubber match of the three-game set Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. Dario Agrazal is on the bump for the Power, matched up against Legends starter Scott Blewett. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M.
