Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (6-6) opened their series with the Lowell Spinners at Dodd Stadium Tuesday night and lost 4-2 to the Boston Red Sox affiliate. The loss pushes Connecticut's losing streak to a season-high three games
The Spinners converted from a pair of Tigers errors in the first and third innings. After an error from Tanner Donnels in the first, Roldani Baldwin crushed a sac-fly to centerfield. Sam Machonis chased it down to prevent more damage but the fly ball gave Lowell the early 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, a throwing error for Keaton Jones put a runner in scoring position for Nick Lovullo. Lovullo benefited as he pulled a single through the left side to score Chris Madera.
The Tigers bats responded in the sixth, with Connecticut down 3-0 Tanner Donnels delivered an RBI-single to left center to drive in Havrilak from second. Hunter Swilling quickly followed with an RBI-groundout to pull the Tigers to within one. The Tigers though stranded the potential tying-run, Donnels, at third.
The Spinners pushed the lead to 4-2 after a sac-fly from Tucker Tubbs in the eighth inning.
Alfred Gutierrez got the start for Connecticut and pitched 5.1 solid innings, allowing six hits, three runs (one earned) and struck out two. The bullpen pitched well for the Tigers, Emmanuel Chavez, John Schreiber and Mark Ecker combined to throw 3.2 innings of scoreless ball.
Tanner Donnels starred at the dish with three hits and an RBI tonight for the Tigers.
Connecticut will look to even the series tomorrow with Locke St. John getting the ball for the Tigers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
