Bostick Blasts First Chiefs Homer in 6-4 Loss

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 6-4, on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Christopher Bostick had his first two hits with the Chiefs, including a two-run home run, and drove across three runs in the loss.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (47-32) scored the game's first run in the second inning off Syracuse starter Austin Voth. With one out, Tyler Austin reached first base on an infield single. Jake Cave singled in the ensuing at-bat, advancing Austin to third. Then, with Cesar Puello at the plate, a passed ball got by Pedro Severino and to the backstop. Austin scored from third on the play to give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (36-41) answered back in the bottom of the frame against Scranton/Wikes-Barre starter Kyle Haynes. Matt Skole led off with a single and Caleb Ramsey doubled two batters later, putting runners on second and third with one out. Following a Severino walk to load the bases, Zach Collier drove in his first run in a Chiefs' uniform with a sacrifice fly, plating Skole to even the score at 1-1.

The RailRiders retaliated with three runs in the third. Ben Gamel worked a leadoff walk and two batters later Aaron Judge walked as well, putting runners on first and second with one out. Gary Sanchez singled in the ensuing at-bat, scoring Gamel, while moving Judge to second base. Austin hit a two-run double in the next at-bat, driving home Judge and Sanchez to put Scranton/Wilkes-Barre up 4-1.

The Yankees' Triple-A affliliate tacked on another run in the fourth. Former Cardinal Pete Kozma led the inning off with a single. Following an out, Kozma stole second and advanced to third when Severino's throw sailed into center field. With two outs, Donovan Solano reached on a Steve Lombardozzi error at third base, bringing home Kozma, giving the RailRiders a 5-1 advantage.

The Chiefs got back on the board in the bottom of the inning. Skole led off with a walk against Haynes. In the next at-bat Bostick hit a long home run to left field, his first hit as a Chief, cutting the RailRiders' lead to 5-3.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre answered right back in the fifth. Austin, the leadoff hitter in the inning, swatted a home run over the right-field fence, expanding the lead to 6-3. Austin was phenomenal for the RailRiders in the win, going 3 for 4 with a single, double, home run, and three RBIs.

The Chiefs cut the lead in the eighth inning. Matt Wotherspoon came on in relief of Haynes and Lombardozzi greeted him by driving a single into left field. Brian Goodwin followed with a walk, to put runners on first and second with no outs. In the next at-bat, Skole grounded into a double play. Lombardozzi advanced to third base on the play. With two outs, Bostick drove home Lombardozzi with a single in the next at-bat, picking up his third RBI to cut the lead to 6-4.

Wotherspoon pitched a scoreless ninth and the RailRiders knocked off the Chiefs in second game of the three-game series. The two teams meet again for the final game of the series on Wednesday night. Jaron Long is scheduled to pitch for Syracuse against Luis Severino for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.at NBT Bank Stadium.
