Phoenix Rising FC News Release

In Saturday's 1-1 draw against Sacramento, Matheus Silva joined Arizona United on the field for his third match with the team. On loan from the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer, Silva continued to add depth and much-needed aggression to the team's midfield.

"For me, it's very important to be here," Silva said. "I'm getting minutes and getting to know the guys which has been great. They're a bunch of good guys for me - they help me out and I help them out. It works."

Born in Taboao de Serra, Brazil, Silva moved to the United States in 2013 to finish high school and pursue his future in soccer. While playing for the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, he helped his team to a third-straight SIMA FAB 50 national title. Quickly after that impressive performance, Silva was signed with San Jose on July 15, 2015. He made his professional debut the following March during the Earthquakes 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids. In May, Silva was loaned to Arizona United SC and made the trek to Phoenix.

"Coach Yallop used to be the head coach for San Jose and Dominic (Kinnear) was his assistant," Silva said. "So they know each other well. Yallop came and watched me a little bit in the preseason and after watching me play, wanted the opportunity to have me on loan. ... I'm really grateful for it."

Unsure how long he will be playing in Phoenix, Silva is enjoying his time here and in no hurry to head back to California.

"I have no idea how long I will be here, but I'm really having fun playing with this team," Silva said. "I am focusing on getting minutes and constantly pushing myself to get better. And whenever San Jose needs me back, I'll be there."

With such determination and drive, Silva's professional soccer career is just beginning. And he has no plans to slow down.

"This is only the start for me," Silva said. "I am only in year two of my professional career, so I just want to get better. Get better every day and make the most of it. There are no limits for me."
