Moncada, Benintendi To Represent Sea Dogs In Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game

PORTLAND, MAINE - Portland Sea Dogs' second baseman Yoan Moncada and outfielder Andrew Benintendi have been selected to participate in the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The 18th-annual game takes place at Petco Park in San Diego on July 10th at 7:00 PM ET and can be watched live on MLB.com and the MLB Network.

Moncada, 21, was selected to join the World team and will be making his first Futures Game appearance. He was named a Carolina League mid-season All-Star this season with High-A Salem and a 2015 South Atlantic League post-season All-Star with Low-A Greenville.

Moncada was promoted from Salem to Portland on June 21st and is hitting .296 (8-for-27) with a double, home run, and four RBI in six games with the Sea Dogs. He has combined between Portland and Salem this season to hit .306 (78-for-255) with 26 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 38 RBI, and 36 stolen bases in 67 games. He is tied for the most stolen bases in all of Minor League Baseball and ranks among Minor League overall leaders in runs scored (63, 2 nd) and doubles (T-5 th). Moncada entered the 2016 season as the top prospect in the Red Sox organization and #3 overall by

Baseball America. A native of Cienfuegos, Cuba, Moncada was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on March 12, 2015.

Benintendi, 21, was selected to join the U.S. team and will be making his first ever All-Star appearance in professional baseball. He was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star for Boston in 2015 and a Baseball America Short-Season All-Star for Lowell in 2015.

Benintendi was promoted from Salem to Portland on May 16 th and is hitting .264 (37-for-140) with three home runs and 22 RBI in 36 games at Double-A. Benintendi has combined between Portland and Salem this season to hit .302 (83-for-275) with 23 doubles, eight triples, four home runs, 54 RBI, and 12 stolen bases. His eight triples are tied for the fourth-most in all of Minor League Baseball. Benintendi entered the 2016 season as the #3 prospect in the Red Sox system according to Baseball America and the #15 prospect overall. The Cincinnati, Ohio native became the Red Sox' earliest ever college player selected in a June Draft when he was picked seventh overall in 2015 out of the University of Arkansas.

The 25-man rosters for the U.S. and World teams are selected by Major League Baseball in conjunction with MLB.com, Baseball America, and all 30 Major League clubs. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues are eligible to participate.

Former Sea Dogs Manuel Margot and Carlos Asuaje were also selected to participate on the World team in this year's game.
