Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Clinton LumberKings stayed unbeaten in the second half of the Midwest League season with a 5-3 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Connor Hale went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI while Nick Neidert allowed two runs over seven innings to lead Clinton past the Rattlers.

The LumberKings (45-31 overall, 6-0 second half) went up 1-0 in the top of the first. Luis Liberato started the inning with a triple. He was still at third with two outs, but Hale cashed him in with a single to right.

Clinton added to their lead in the fourth. A four-pitch walk to Rafael Fernandez started the inning. Ricky Eusebio hit a fly ball deep to center that was dropped for a three-base error and Fernandez scored on the play.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Conor Harber struck out six and allowed six hits over five innings. Only one of the two runs charged against Harber were earned.

Jake Gatewood got the Timber Rattlers (37-39, 3-3) on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. The Wisconsin third baseman hit a line drive home run to center to lead off the inning. The blast was the ninth homer of the season for Gatewood and the Rattlers were within a run.

Hale, who is 7-for-9 in the first two games of the series, struck again in the top of the seventh inning. He hit a pitch from reliever Jake Drossner off the scoreboard in left-center for a two-run homer and the LumberKings were up 4-1.

David Denson started the Rattlers on the comeback trail in the seventh with a homer to center off Neidert. Denson's solo shot with one out in the frame was his seventh home run of the season and pulled Wisconsin to within two runs.

Neidert left after seven innings, his longest outing as a professional. He allowed two runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out two.

Wisconsin rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning versus reliever Joey Strain. Max McDowell and Sthervin Matos had consecutive singles with one out. Both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch by Strain. Luis Aviles singled sharply to left with two outs to get McDowell home, but Matos had to hold at third with the tying run. Clinton escaped the inning when lefty reliever Spencer Herrmann took over for Strain and got the final out.

The LumberKings added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Rayder Ascanio singled to start the inning, was bunted to second, and took third on a wild pitch. Alex Jackson drilled a double off the wall in center to get Ascanio home.

Herrmann retired the Rattlers in order to close out the game for his first save of the season.

The Timber Rattlers are 3-8 against the LumberKings this season, including 2-6 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Game three of the series is set for Wednesday night. Freddy Peralta (4-1, 2.70) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The LumberKings will counter with Zack Littell (5-5, 2.82). Game time is 7:05pm.
