Erie SeaWolves News Release
(Erie, PA) - The Erie SeaWolves, Double-A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are pleased to announce that right-handed reliever Joe Jimenez has been named to the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
Jimenez will play for the World Team in the game that will take place on Sunday, July 10, at Petco Park in San Diego.
Jimenez is currently rated as the number eight prospect in the Tigers organization by MLB.com. He began the season with Class-A Lakeland where he appeared in 17 games for the Flying Tigers, recording 10 saves in as many chances. In 17.1 innings, he did not allow a run, only surrendering five hits with five walks while striking out 28.
Jimenez was promoted to Erie on May 27. In 10 appearances with the SeaWolves, he is 3-0 and a perfect 5-for-5 in save opportunities. He did not allow a run over his first nine appearances and went 26.1 innings (between Erie and Lakeland) before allowing his first run on June 25 at Hartford. Jimenez has struck out 18 while walking just two in 10 innings with Erie.
The Tigers number three prospect, Christian Stewart, was also named to the Futures Game and will play for the U.S. squad.
The SeaWolves return home on Thursday, June 30 as they begin a four-game series with the Akron RubberDucks (Cleveland Indians) at 7:05 p.m. Jerry Uht Park is the place to be during the Independence Day Holiday Weekend as the SeaWolves start July with THREE consecutive nights of spectacular post-game Zambelli fireworks July 1-3.
