Moncton Wildcats News Release

MONCTON N.B. - The Moncton Wildcats selected two defencemen today in the CHL Import Draft. The team held the 39th overall selection in the first round, and the 99th overall selection in the second round.

With the team's first pick the Wildcats drafted Swiss born defenceman Simon Le Coultre. Playing this past season with the Lausanne U20 team in the Elite Jr. A league, he played in 39 games registering 18 points. He was also a part of the Swiss U-18 team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, while last season he captained the U-17 team in Lausanne. The 1999 born player stands at 5'11 and weighs 161 lbs. "Simon is a very skilled puck moving offensive defenceman who will bring a lot of speed to our back end." said Director of Hockey Operations, Roger Shannon. "Were are looking forward to seeing where he can take his game over the next three years."

The second selection, 99th overall for the Wildcats is defenceman Kirill Chaika from Belarus. This season he played with the Yunost Minsk of the MHL, playing 39 games posting 12 points. "He plays on the Belarus National team and is a very big and steady stay at home defenceman" said Roger Shannon. Coming in at 6'6 tall and weighing 215 lbs he will be a huge asset on the ice. "With the young defenceman we are going to have on the team this year, it will be nice to have an older player in the lineup for the season."

We are looking forward to welcoming both players to Moncton! Kirill and Simon will be in New Brunswick all summer training and you will be able to see these two players on the ice at the Hub City Showcase this coming August 19th - 21st at the Superior Propane Centre in Moncton!
