(Peterborough, ON) - With the 23rd overall pick in the 2016 CHL Import Draft on Tuesday morning, Petes GM Michael Oke selected Matyas Svoboda from the Czech Republic.

The 6'3", 209lbs left wing played for KLH Chomutov in the Czech U18 league in 2015/16, recording 16 goals, 17 assists, 33 points, 20 penalty minutes and a rating of +20 in 27 games. Svoboda also represented the Czech Republic internationally, participating in under-16 and under-17 tournaments.

"Matyas is a big, strong winger with good size and strength," noted Oke. "He drives hard to the net, protects the puck well, and has demonstrated that he has good puck skills."

"Svoboda is a player we have really liked in our international viewings," added the International Scouting Service. "He is already a big kid that plays a heavy game on the wing."
