Rawhide Snap Three-Game Skid with 9-4 Win

VISALIA, CA - The Visalia Rawhide (48-27, 2-3) opened the home portion of their 2016 second half schedule with a 9-4 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (44-31, 2-3) at Recreation Ballpark on Monday night.

RHP Brad Keller (6-4, 4.19) hurled 6.1 innings, allowing four runs (earned) on seven hits while striking out seven to earn his sixth win of the season.

Visalia jumped out to an early lead against rehabbing big leaguer RHP Brandon McCarthy (0-1, 5.40). In the bottom of the first SS Domingo Leyba singled and stole second base, advancing to third on a throwing error by C Julian Leon. 1B Marty Herum knocked in Leyba with a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.

LF Chuck Taylor reached on the second error of the ball game by Rancho in the third inning before RF Victor Reyes singled him to third. SS Robelyes Reyes knocked in Taylor with an RBI groundout for a 2-0 lead.

1B Matt Beaty doubled home both 2B Tim Locastro and LF Joey Curletta to tie the ballgame at 2-2 in the top of the fourth before Visalia took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth.

The Rawhide added another run in the fourth inning against McCarthy when Herum singled and moved to third on a C Michael Perez double. Herum scampered home on a wild pitch thrown by McCarthy for a 3-2 lead

Taylor hit a solo home run in the fifth innings to push the lead to 4-2 and that was the end of the night for McCarthy. He pitched five innings and allowed six hits and four runs (two earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out three in the loss.

3B Dawel Lugo connected for his 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth against RHP Adam Bray to extend the lead to 6-2. Taylor reached on an infield single and then Reyes singled behind him. On the play there was an error charged to the right fielder that allowed Taylor to come all the way home and score making it a 7-2 ballgame.

Leon hit his sixth home run of the season in the top of the seventh for Rancho, a two-run home run that chased Keller after 6.1 innings and made it a 7-4 game but the Rawhide tacked on single tallies in the seventh and eighth innings against the Rancho bullpen to cruise to the 9-4 win.

Both Chuck Taylor and Victory Reyes each had four hits apiece in the win.

The Rawhide continue the series tomorrow night against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes with another 7:00 p.m. first pitch. RHP Joel Payamps (2-0, 2.03) will pitch for Visalia against RHP Andrew Sopko (7-1, 3.41) for Rancho.
