Solid Bullpen, Early Offense Gives Sweets Game One Win

Walla Walla, WASH - The Walla Walla Sweets (13-9) held on to a one run lead for the last three innings and took game one over the Bend Elks (9-13) by a score of 5-4.

The Sweets took first blood in the first inning when Jarren Duran (Long Beach State) scored from third on a wild pitch. Ben Baird (Washington) then scored on a sacrifice fly by Patrick Chung (Gonzaga) to make it 2-0.

Walla Walla tacked on in the second when Jordan Myrow (UCLA) scored on a passed ball. He stole two bases to get to third after singling and the Sweets stole six bases on the night, a season high.

Bend found the scoreboard in the fourth with one run, but the Sweets countered with two runs on RBI singles by Duran and Willie MacIver (Washington).

The Elks then fought back in the sixth and piled on three runs to make it 5-4 Walla Walla. The Sweets pitching staff shut them down the rest of the way for the win.

Easton Lucas (Pepperdine) picked up the win and improved to 4-0 on the season. AJ Carkner (Pikeville) recorded his second save on the season as well.

The Sweets were out-hit in the game 11-6 and the Elks stranded 13 on base.

Jackson Weeg (Emory) heads to the mound for the Sweets in game two and he brings a 3-0 record into the contest. First pitch is slated for 7:05 P.M.
