Canadians Extend Winning Ways To Three Games

June 28, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - A collection of defensive highlights combined with seven shutout innings from Canadians starter RHP Justin Maese (1-0) helped Vancouver maintain a share of the lead in the Northwest League's North Division after a 3-0 victory over Hillsboro on Monday night at The Nat.

Maese was dominant in his third start of the season for Vancouver, limiting the two-time, defending Northwest League Champions to just four hits as he collected his first win of the season. In a post-game interview, Maese complimented his teammates defense for helping him secure the fourth victory in five games against the Hops.

SS Deiferson Barreto was front and centre making four standout plays in the middle of the infield to help stymie any offensive surge from Hillsboro.

Offensively, the Canadians grabbed a pair of runs off of Hillsboro starter RHP Anfernee Benitez in the bottom of the 3rd with SS Deiferson Barreto smacking a sacrifice fly and RF Jacob Anderson hitting a hard single that scored 2B Cavan Biggio to give the C's a 2-0 lead.

Vancouver's only other run came on a solo home run from DH Gabe Clark who rocked a fastball from Benitez onto the "hey y'all!" Porch in left field extending the lead to 3-0. It was Clark's first home run of the season and only the second home run in 11 games for Vancouver.

With the victory, Vancouver improves to 7-4 (.636) on the season, while Hillsboro falls to 3-8 (.272). The Canadians now head out onto the road for a three-game series against North Division rival Tri-City (6-5) at Gesa Stadium in Pasco, WA. Vancouver will feature RHP Dalton Rodriguez (1-1, 2.61); LHP Juliandry Higuera (1-1, 3.52) and RHP Patrick Murphy (1-1, 2.25) against the potent Dust Devils offense.

Vancouver Canadians Baseball returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Canada Day, Friday, July 1st at 7:05pm as the C's welcome North Division foes, Spokane for a three-game home stand.

Tickets to watch the Canadians and Spokane Indians (July 1-3) are still available and can be purchased by calling 604.872.5232, online at www.canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
