Power Overwhelmed in Fourth

(Charleston, WV - June 27, 2016)- The West Virginia Power dropped the first game of a seven-game homestand against the Lexington Legends 13-6 Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. Lexington used an eleven-batter, seven-run fourth en route to the series opening victory.
The Power jumped to an early 2-0 advantage in the first. Mitchell Tolman launched a Yunior Marte pitch over the right center field wall for his fourth home run of the season. Later in the frame Daniel Arribas lined a single to center to put West Virginia up by a pair.
The Legends took the lead in the third, scoring three times against Power starter Mitch Keller on three base hits, highlighted by an RBI double from Roman Collins.
Keller (5-5) was removed after two and a third innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three and walking two. It was the shortest outing of the year for the South Atlantic League All-Star, and the first time the right-hander allowed multiple walks in a game.
Lexington blew the game open in the fourth, plating seven runs on eight hits, seven of which were singles. Marten Gasparini and Travis Maezes each had a pair of singles in the eleven batter frame. All seven runs were charged to Power reliever Tanner Anderson, as the Legends lead grew to 10-2.
The Legends scored single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth to cap the scoring. The Power fought back for four runs in the fourth and fifth on RBI singles by Tolman, Casey Hughston, and Christian Kelley.
The Power offense was shutout over the final four frames as the Legends won the series opener 13-6. Marte (4-3) earned the win after allowing six runs in five innings.
West Virginia will try to even the series Tuesday night. Logan Sendelbach starts for the Power against Lexington's Emilio Ogando. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. at Appalachian Power Park. $1.00 from every ticket sold this week will be donated to the American Red Cross- West Virginia Region to help ongoing flood relief efforts in the state.
