Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
ALTOONA, PA - Amed Rosario smacked a go-ahead two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning to propel the Binghamton Mets to a 3-2 win over the Altoona Curve Monday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. It was Binghamton's fourth straight win.
With two outs in the eighth, L.J. Mazzilli singled and Phillip Evans walked. Rosario then blasted a triple deep to center, scoring Mazzilli and Evans to put the B-Mets on top, 3-2.
Binghamton struck first in the second inning as Jayce Boyd led off with a single. Stefan Sabol later chopped a potential double play ball that Erich Weiss threw wide of first after a force out at second. The throwing error allowed Boyd to score and gave the B-Mets a 1-0 lead.
The Curve got on the board in the fourth. After Rainy Lara set down the first ten Altoona batters he faced, Weiss singled. Reese McGuire later slapped a two-out single up the middle, scoring Weiss from second to tie the score at one.
Lara lasted 4-2/3 innings before exiting mid at bat with an injury in the fifth. He allowed one run and struck out four with three hits against.
Altoona took the lead for good in the sixth. Kevin Newman led off with a single and stole second with two outs. One pitch later, Jose Osuna blooped a single into shallow left, scoring Newman from second to put the Curve up 2-1.
Clay Holmes took a no-decision limiting the B-Mets to one run on two hits with six strikeouts over six innings. He retired the last 14 batters he faced. Kevin McGowan (2-0) picked up the win after striking out three with one run allowed over 2-1/3 innings.
Miguel Rosario (0-1) was the losing pitcher after allowing two runs over 1-2/3 innings. Beck Wheeler worked around two walks in the ninth to pick up his sixth save.
Maikis De La Cruz was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, Rosario went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a triple and Mazzilli was 1-for-4 with a run.
