Rox Drop Consecutive Games vs. Sharks

June 27, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Brockton Rox News Release

The Rox welcomed the Sharks on Monday night, two days after traveling to Martha's Vineyard. Brockton hoped to avoid 2 consecutive losses against the same opponent. Unfortunately, the result was nearly the same for Brockton.

The Sharks had runners on base every time you turned your head, reaching base in multiple ways. The Rox had 4 errors on the day that allowed the Sharks to score 10 runs in the game. However, 7 of them were earned. Eliminating the errors very well could have sent the Rox home victorious.

Down 7 entering the bottom of the 9th, the Rox mounted a 9th inning, 2-out comeback to make things interesting. Four runs in the 9th, including a 3-RBI double by Bryce Verplank, narrowed the gap to 3. Brett McManus stepped to the plate with 2 men on and an opportunity to tie the game. A well hit line drive to 2nd base abruptly ended the rally and sent the Sharks home with a 10-7 victory.

If Brockton had eliminated the errors, the game looked to be heading to extra innings, but the Sharks jumped out to a 7 run lead that would be just enough to hold the Rox.

The Rox have one more home game before they go on a week-long road trip. Brockton (11-12) travels to Nashua (14-7) tomorrow night before their last home game on Wednesday when they take on the Torrington Titans (8-14). First pitch is at 7:05 at Campanelli Stadium.
