2016-17 Regular Season Schedule Announced
June 27, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
CALGARY, Alta. - The Spokane Chiefs, in concurrence with the Western Hockey League, announced today their 72-game schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 regular season, including all 36 home games to be played at Spokane Arena. The Chiefs begin their season on the road versus the Tri-City Americans on Saturday, September 24 before kicking off their home schedule against the same Americans club for Bud Light Opening Night at the Arena on Saturday, October 1.
In total, the Chiefs will host opponents for 27 weekend games; 10 Fridays, 15 Saturday and two Sundays. The remainder of the home schedule will be played on two Tuesday and seven Wednesday nights.
Spokane will need to be ready early as they'll have their busiest month in October, playing 14 total games, including a six-game road trip through the East Division beginning on October 21.
The Chiefs will enjoy the comforts of home in November, venturing out of Spokane just once in 10 games. A 12-game December means the Chiefs will have played 37 home games before New Year's Day, including 21 of their full 36-game home schedule.
January will be a month of heavy travel with nine road contests to just four at home. The Chiefs' remaining 22 games combined in February and March will be evenly split between Spokane Arena and visitor locker rooms.
Spokane will play 38 games against U.S. Division opponents; 12 against the rival Tri-City Americans, 10 against the reigning Western Conference Champion Seattle Thunderbirds and eight each against the Portland Winterhawks and Everett Silvertips.
The Chiefs' home schedule will conclude with the Coca-Cola Regular Season Finale on Saturday, March 18 before wrapping up Game 72 in Portland on Sunday, March 19.
Other promotional nights already scheduled include Leinenkugel's HOCKtoberfest on Saturday, October 15 and Teddy Bear Toss presented by the Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund on Saturday, December 9. The full 2016-17 Promotional Schedule will be released later this summer.
