Sanford Swamped by Late-Inning Keene Comeback

Sanford Mainers News Release

SANFORD - Although the Sanford Mainers (7-8) hardly trailed throughout the game, the Keene Swamp Bats (9-5) came back late to take the low-scoring thriller 2-1.

Keene trailed entering the 9th inning, and all seemed to be going to plan for the Mainers who led 1-0. Troy Miller (Michigan) retired the first man in the inning on a strikeout looking, but then surrendered a walk to Jamal Wade (Maryland). Lucas Luopa (Eckerd) followed and hit a soft ground ball to Miller, who threw it into the dirt by the second base bag resulting in Luopa reaching base with still only one man out on the throwing error.

With two men away in the inning, Garret Christman (Butler) dropped a single into center field to score one run, with Luopa held initially at third base until Zach Jancarski's (Maryland) sailed to the backstop, allowing Luopa to score the deciding run.

When it was all said and done, Sanford had allowed two runs on a hit, two errors and a walk to give Keene the lead.

The Mainers were unfortunately unable to take advantage of another phenomenal start from Will Tribucher. The Michigan Wolverine delivered a blistering six innings of work for the straight time, and allowed only three hits and two walks while recording six strikeouts.

Sanford was able to put him in position to get the win by grabbing their lone run in the 5th inning. Sam Stauble (Southern Maine) got on-base via a one out walk and was promptly doubled in by Jordan Powell (Rhode Island) who hit a screaming line drive down the over third base into the left field corner.

The Moose were only able to muster three hits on the evening off of Keene pitching, though they were aided by eight walks and two hit batsmen to total 13 base runners in the game.

The Mainers return to action tomorrow night, June 27 as they host the Upper Valley Nighthawks in their first ever visit to Goodall Park. The NECBL Broadcast Network will begin with pregame coverage at 6:15 PM, with first pitch slated for 6:30 PM.
