June 26, 2016 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

The Tri-City ValleyCats (4-6) ended the Lowell Spinners (9-1) nine-game win streak Sunday night, claiming an 11-6 victory at LeLacheur Park. The 'Cats had two-five run innings to take down the Spinners, who entered the game as the New-York Penn League's only unbeaten team.

Lefty Sebastian Kessay, who started the game, tossed four one-run innings, striking out and walking three. Nick Hernandez (1-0) took the win for the 'Cats, allowing a run on four hits in 2 1/3 innings, striking out two. Sean Stutzman, who was added to the roster for Rookie-level Greenville hours before the game, pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the victory.

For Lowell, Darwinzon Hernandez (1-1) didn't make it out of the second inning, and took the loss for the Spinners, allowing five runs (three earned) and walking three in 1 1/3 innings.

The 'Cats scored five runs in the second inning, thanks to a pair of RBI doubles from Daz Cameron and Taylor Jones, and an error on third baseman Victor Acosta that allowed two runs to come in.

Stephen Wrenn hit a solo homerun in the top of the fourth, his team-leading third of the season.

Lowell scored four runs in the sixth, including three off of Ben Smith, whose ERA bloated to 21.21. Smith allowed four earned runs in 1 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking four.

The 'Cats roared back in the top of the seventh with five more runs, three of which came on a three-run bases-clearing double from Alex DeGoti, who entered the game 1-8 with runners in scoring position. With Wrenn back at the plate, DeGoti stole third, then scored on a throwing error by catcher Nick Sciortino.

The Spinners tacked on one more run in the bottom of the 8th, but couldn't overcome the tandem of Nick Hernandez and Stutzman to pull off the comeback.

Tri-City and Lowell will play the rubber match of the three-game series tomorrow night, June 27, at 7:00 p.m. The ValleyCats return home for a three game set against the Williamsport Crosscutters.
